Find out what we’re doing to improve Great Northern trains, stations and services

New trains and more regular services

We’re investing in new trains, extra carriages and more services, including:

  • Cambridge to King’s Lynn: new air-conditioned trains in 2016
  • Cambridge to London: doubling overall capacity by 2018
  • Cambridge and Peterborough: direct links to London Bridge, St Pancras International and Thameslink stations from 2018
  • Moorgate line: extra fleet of trains in 2018, to be completed in spring 2019
  • Peterborough: new trains in 2016-2018
  • King’s Cross to King’s Lynn: two trains per hour from the end of 2018
  • Welwyn Garden City to London: two trains per hour from the end of 2018

Better deals on fares

We’re bringing in more great deals on our tickets:

  • More money-saving Advance tickets on our routes
  • Super Off-Peak fares available during the week from 2018
  • Flexible season tickets for part-time workers in selected areas

Spruced-up stations

Govia Thameslink Railway, which owns Great Northern, is sprucing up its stations, with:

  • £50 million being invested in stations
  • Free Wi-Fi at 104 stations
  • Full-time staffing at 101 stations, from the first to the last train
  • Interactive touchscreens at Finsbury Park and Stevenage
