Accessibility at the station

Find out what help you can get at Great Northern stations if you’re disabled or need assistance travelling on our trains.

How we can help

We want everybody to get the most out of travelling by train.

If you need a hand getting around, we can help you with:

  • moving around the station
  • climbing up and down any stairs
  • getting on and off the train
  • carrying your luggage
  • changing onto another train
  • getting a bus or taxi from the station

It’s a good idea to book assistance in advance whenever possible to make sure someone is there to help when you travel.

If your station doesn’t have step-free access, we can book a taxi to your nearest accessible station, at no extra cost.

Accessibility at our stations

We can advise you about the easiest way to get around and facilities at our stations.

Many of our stations have:

  • step-free access
  • platform-to-train ramps
  • customer service staff
  • car parking spaces for blue badge holders
  • help points
  • induction loops
  • accessible toilets
  • station wheelchairs

Ramps are available at all of our stations with step-free access.

Station wheelchairs are there to help passengers get to the train, but can’t be used on the train for your journey.

What to do when you get to the station

Someone will be there to meet you at the station if you’ve booked assistance in advance.

If you haven’t had the chance to book, let our people know what you need, and they’ll do the best they can to help.

There may be a delay if you haven’t booked help beforehand, so try to allow extra time for your journey.

If nobody is around, contact us using the help point or give us a call.
